5 months agoNot a museum, apparently the taonga are in the library. Wouldn't know, the directions to the library were vague. They let us use the loo though. Thanks.

8 months agoWe visited today and most was closed in preparation for MMC awards. While we appreciate this needs time to curate,we did not expect the static displays of early history to be so fragmented.Items were listed but missing, replaced by a bottle of whale oil for example, but not one was fully as described.A Swedish sign from early life at the mills, was pivoted so you saw the back of it,guns described as carried by WW1 soldiers were not in the locked cabinets, either there has been pilfering or staff have removed items for maintainence and not replaced them. Its irritating to read about an item and be unable to view it. Come on,if you have a museum, then curate it and check it regularly. If you take an item out of display then replace it with something else and amend your information. This is regular curation practise.

2 years agoExcellent facility with very helpful staff. I also visited the museum and library closer to town. What displays were there were Excellent but the art section appeared to take up far touch space for what what was there and could be better used by condensing much of it and increasing the historical area.

a year agoWish there was more to look at, a lot of Taonga was removed. But good atmosphere and good relevant history.
