A Heartfelt Thank You to Sam and White Strawberries Podcast

I want to extend a huge, heartfelt thank you to Sam from the White Strawberries Podcast. It’s not every day someone travels all the way to Te Puke, especially in the middle of winter, just to see what you’re passionate about. But that’s exactly what Sam did. She came to visit and get a firsthand look at Troppo’s Tropical Urban Food Forest and to sit down with me for an interview.

It was an absolute pleasure showing her around. The food forest is a project I pour my heart and soul into, and having someone like Sam, who is genuinely interested in sustainable living and food systems, was truly special. We walked through the lush, albeit mid-winter, landscape, talking about everything from tropical plant varieties that can survive in our climate to the philosophy behind creating a resilient, edible ecosystem in an urban environment.

The interview was a fantastic experience. Sam is an excellent interviewer—thoughtful and engaging—and she made the conversation feel natural and easy. We chatted about the history of Troppo’s, the challenges and successes of growing unique and exotic foods here in the Bay of Plenty, and the importance of reconnecting with our food sources. It was a wonderful opportunity to share my story and the mission of the food forest with a wider audience.

The episode is now live, and I’m so excited for everyone to hear it. If you’re curious about what we discussed, you can listen to our full conversation here:
