Paws at the ready, pooches! Summer is officially on its way, and the Western Bay of Plenty District Council is celebrating with the return of its popular Wander Walk Summer Series! This fantastic initiative offers free, guided dog walks across the rohe (district), giving dogs and their owners a chance to explore stunning locations, socialise, and enjoy the great outdoors together.
The first walk of the season is set for this weekend at a firm favourite: Te Puna Quarry Park!
The walk will loop around the beautiful park, offering a scenic view stop along the way. Council’s Animal Services Team Leader, Peter Hrstich, notes that this walk “always attracts a large number of dog owners and their furry friends. It’s a great way for dogs to socialise, and dog lovers to meet with other like-minded people for some fun and fresh air.”
With the weather warming up and spring flowers putting on a spectacular show, it’s the perfect time to visit the park! Just remember to wear sturdy shoes, as the track includes some hill walking.
Every participating dog will go home with a bag of treats! Plus, owners are encouraged to capture the fun and enter this year’s Wander Walk Photo Competition, run via the Western Bay Animal Services Facebook page. Get ready to snap those scenic views and happy pups!
The walking series will culminate in the ultimate doggy event: a “Woofstock” themed Doggy Day Out in March!
