Orchid Extravaganza Flourishes in Te Puke Despite Rain
Te Puke, Bay of Plenty – The Bay of Plenty Orchid Society successfully hosted its annual orchid show this past weekend at the Te Puke Memorial Hall, transforming the venue into a vibrant display of floral finesse. Held on Friday and Saturday from 10 am to 4 pm each day, the event drew plant enthusiasts from across the region.
Visitors were treated to stunning orchid displays curated by both the Bay of Plenty Orchid Society and the Tauranga Orchid Society. Beyond the exquisite orchids, a diverse selection of other plants, including hoyas, tropical fruit trees, and various pot plants, were available for purchase, offering something for every green thumb.
Entry to the show was a modest $3 for adults, making it an accessible event for plant lovers. Society President Cliff Goodchild noted that while this show was held earlier in the season compared to other regional events, it consistently remains a favorite for both attendees and vendors. Goodchild also expressed his hope that younger enthusiasts who visited might consider joining the society, helping to ensure the passion for orchids continues to flourish for generations to come.
Troppo’s Tropical Oasis Adds to the Bloom
Despite the heavy rain that nourished the earth outside, the Te Puke community’s enthusiasm for the show remained undampened. The Vector Group Charitable Trust’s initiative, Troppo, was among the honored participants, setting up a stall that stood out like a tropical oasis. Their display of rare tropical and subtropical plants buzzed with activity, captivating seasoned collectors and curious newcomers alike.
